A 1950s semi-detached family dwelling, perched on a sloping site between a mature park and a sprawling view of Dublin city. Walls of the existing garage are retained, now propping a timber portal frame timber enclosing a planted entrance court; a threshold marking the arrival to a newly located entrance towards the rear of the house. The new extension is positioned towards the views and the sloping site to the rear of the existing house.
Groundworks step through the landscape, weaving through and around courts and planted gardens while platforming different functions and spaces, allowing for dynamic interrelationships between. Kitchen and dining areas remain on a higher level surrounding a new living area which nestles in the existing landscape. The floor above accommodates the master bedroom which relates to both park and city.
Concrete block fin walls were constructed along sight lines, framing spaces while opening views of landscapes and the Dublin city lights beyond. Timber infills further slot into the construction providing for view, access, seating, shelter, privacy, security and light. A natural, modest and simple palette of exposed concrete block and timber were used
